Help make camps possible

Starfish launch event

Article by: Bryan Elliott

After three years of providing summer breakaways for looked after children in care in South Wales, Starfish KIDS Camp is going nationwide!

Starfish KIDS Camp, formerly known as Royal Family Kids, UK (RFK), provides five day residential summer camps for children in foster care. We have seen the benefits that a week of hope can bring to children of abuse, neglect, and uncertainty, and we have likewise witnessed year-on-year growth in attendance.

Demand for more campers to be accepted coupled with a limited supply of venue availability for the Cardiff, Gwent, RCT, and surrounding areas has compelled trustees to launch The Starfish Alliance, a nationally recognised charity. The Starfish Alliance will work in the coming year and beyond to recruit more churches across the UK to host camps in their communities, while also raising funds and providing needed resources for existing and new camps.

To celebrate this new launch, organisers held a dessert banquet at Caerphilly Castle. Guests were treated to special speaker Rob Mitchell's testimony of being raised in a group care home for children in the U.S., finding support from caring adults, and succeeding in business, family, and life.
